We all have stuff going on in our lives. We all have times where something happened that was too much, too fast, too soon for us to be able to process properly. Some of these events a big traumas, some are a woundedness which sends our nervous system into overwhelm. The trauma or woundedness is not actually the event, but rather the energy that gets locked in your body around real or perceived threat, often resulting in a person getting “stuck” in the fight, flight or freeze responses.
Signs you might be stuck in Survival Mode can be:
- Feeling constantly stressed or anxious: You always feel tense or worried.
- Difficulty focusing: It's hard to concentrate or remember things.
- Always tired: You feel exhausted even after sleeping.
- Irritability: Little things easily make you upset or angry.
- Overwhelm: Everyday tasks feel too much to handle.
- Neglecting self-care: You don’t take time to eat well, exercise, or relax.
- Social withdrawal: You avoid friends and social activities.
- Numbness: You feel emotionally detached or indifferent.
- Hypervigilance: You are always on edge, expecting something bad to happen.
- Poor decision-making: You struggle to make even simple choices.
- Having had my fair share of trauma and woundedness over the years I desperately tried to figure out what people meant by "you just have to let go of the past". What does that even mean and how do you go about that?
- It wasn't until I started this work I realised it wasn't so much about 'letting go', it was about making peace with the the past and present. That didn't mean I liked what happened or where I was at for that matter, it meant that I had to strip away the emotions surrounding the events so I could perceive them for what they were. Only then was I able to 'move on' and stop feeling stuck in my survival mode with its' consequences of negative throughts, repeat patterns, mental health issues and a chronic health condition.

Your focus creates your reality (when you drive you always veer to where you look), and, where often we think we are focussed on what we want, we are actually focussed on the lack of it. By focussing on the lack we only give it power, so instead of being inspired to reach our goal, we go down the rabbit hole of why we don't deserve it, why we aren't good enough, not worthy enough, not capable etc etc.

Root-Cause Therapy (RCT) is a therapy that aims to find and heal the root cause of an individual's condition, whether physical, emotional or behavioral. This approach uses different processes, including NLP, Regression Therapy, Timeline Therapy, Talk Therapy, Inner Child Healing and Somatic Breathwork. Some of the issues RCT is helpful in resolving are:
When we get triggered by people, situations, or circumstances, it often is because it activates unresolved emotions or memories from past traumatic experiences. These traumas aren't always caused by major events, they can be as simple as losing a parent in a shopping centre at the age of 4 and the meaning you gave to that event with the emotional intelligence, and support you had available at the time. When a traumatic experience doesn't get completed properly it can cause ongoing emotional and psychological distress, such as anxiety, panic, depression, feelings of numbness and being stuck.
The trauma cycle is a repeating pattern where someone experiences trauma, and their reactions to it can cause ongoing problems. Here's a simple explanation:
- Trauma Event: Something really upsetting or scary happens.
- Emotional Reaction: You feel strong emotions like fear, anger, or sadness.
- Behavior Changes: These emotions might make you act differently, like avoiding things that remind you of the trauma.
- Negative Thoughts: You might start thinking negatively about yourself or the world.
- Ongoing Stress: These thoughts and behaviors keep causing stress and emotional pain.
- Triggers: Things that remind you of the trauma bring back the strong emotions, starting the cycle again.
With RCT I gently and effectively guide you to the past traumatic event or woundedness that is ready to be completed and integrated - detaching negative feelings from the events so you can look at them with a clear, true perspective.
This then allows you to make peace with the past, resolving the resistance, so you no longer focus on what you don't want giving you space to focus on what you do want!

A bit more about me...
After being involved in corporate life for years I felt called to find a more purposeful career. I had always been fascinated by how our minds work but didn't feel called to the more traditional ways of working with it. Whilst exploring my own relationship with food during a hypnotherapy session I realised what a powerful and gentle way this modality is to explore the inner workings of the mind and help people make positive changes in their lives.
I was particularly drawn to having a way release issues from the past without having to relive the trauma associated with them. So I set out on my journey of re-education and studied with well know Hypnotherapist and tutor, Grant Boddington from Hypnosis New Zealand. I established my hypnotherapy clinic in 2011, and over the years have added a range of techniques and tools to my repertoire in order to assist people from all walks of life in their journey to be the best version of themselves.
Over the years I've come across a lot of people whom - for personal reason - aren't comfortable with being in a state of hypnosis and for years I've been searching for a technique to honour and serve those people in an effective, efficient and gentle way to achieve lasting change. I am so excited to now also add Root-Cause Therapy as a way of helping those who want a more Conscious experience rather than subconcsious, yet have amazing results. In my spare time I like to dedicate myself to the Mobility Dogs Trust. Our family are 'Puppy Raisers' for the Trust, training these amazing dogs to assist people living with disabilities. Even though it is very hard to say goodbye to them after a 12-month stay with us, we know they will go on to make an amazing difference in someone’s life!

Another beautiful session with my gorgeous friend Carla van Voorst.
